The Canada Games, currently running in Sherbrooke, Quebec, have banned certain foods for the first time. P.E.I. chef and Food Network host Michael Smith told CBC News the ban on deep fried and processed foods is being well received by the athletes. Smith is in Sherbrooke as part of a team helping to prepare 10,000 meals a day for the young athletes.
French fries are on the list of foods not being served at the Canada Games. (CBC) “For them to be in an atmosphere of health and nutrition and wellness is just such an easy decision for us to make,” said Smith.
“They are very susceptible to learning, and learning about how they can be their best and be at peak performance, and to be surrounded by junk food is just frankly unconscionable.”
