You ever find yourself tired, lethargic and worn out? I’m not talking about the clients you work with. I am talking about YOU the professional trainer. Days filled with appointments, clients and classes can catch up to us. After all, we are only human. Yes we love what we do! You’re giving time and energy to others, give the same to yourself.
When we give so much of ourselves we can feel depleted emotionally and mentally by the end of the week. Our job requires us to be “UP” all the time. We must be positive, energetic and happy! I can honestly admit by the end of the week I feel it’s important for me to have some quiet time. That is so valuable to me. Let’s face it, we are bombarded with people and noise all week long. There’s nothing wrong with taking time to meditate, read or in my case write. I call it “feeding it your soul.”
I am passionate about my job. I have learned sometimes the best thing I can do is take a step back from exercise. Being involved with exercise six days a week, eight hours a day is mentally daunting. When I leave work, I do not discuss my job with anyone. Why? You have to create boundaries for yourself in order to stay mentally healthy. Work is work. Honestly, it’s just nice to involve myself with activities that have nothing to do with work. It helps me to decompress and relax. When I come back on Monday, I feel 100% better.
As a professional you need to practice what you preach. Sometimes that means taking a break. You can only give what you have. If you are depleted mentally and emotionally then it’s hard to help others. Make time for you and everyone will benefit.
