June 3rd, 2017 was National Health and Fitness Day (NHFD). Senator Nancy Greene Raine, in partnership with former MP, John Weston, saw passage of Bill S-211, the National Health and Fitness Day Act, in December 2014. The passage of the Bill creates a strong impetus towards bringing communities together every year on the first Saturday in June to highlight the importance of Health and Fitness.
As an FIC initiative, FIC has been encouraging participating fitness clubs to waive their drop-in fees for the day to promote health and wellness. The objective of NHFD is to introduce individuals to a healthy lifestyle in order to reduce the health care costs attributed to preventable diseases. Many fitness clubs have also hosted events to promote the day.
On Saturday, June 3rd, Greco Fitness co-hosted a fitness event on Parliament Hill to promote NHFD. Thousands of participants came out to the grounds to became active. Former MP and National Health and Fitness Foundation President, John Weston joined by City Counsellor, Mathieu Fleury launched the event.
“I am delighted to be joining forces with great fitness leaders in our community… Our philosophies align and we have the same goal; to bring awareness to the importance of the healthy, active lifestyle,” says Tony Greco, founder of Greco Fitness.
Next year’s NHFD will be on June 2nd, 2018. To register your club as a participating club or to see a full list of participating fitness facilities, please visit WWW.GYMPASS.CA.
