It is a time for making plans with friends, spending time at the cottage and sitting around campfire. Your routine certainly changes! People like to take the summer off from exercise. I think it’s important that while you’re spending time with family and friends, it’s important to make time for your health and wellness. If you cannot reach the gym that’s okay, there’s plenty to do outdoors!
Here are a few ideas to get involved in activities this summer:
1) Play in the Water: Swimming is great exercise and is non weight bearing on your joints. Whether you’re paddling on a kayak, canoeing, paddle boarding or using a pedal boat it call counts. Get out there and enjoy the water this summer!
2) Take a Ride: Nothing better than getting out and enjoying a trail in the forest or along the water. Whatever your environment, use a bike to get around instead of driving. It’s easy. It’s free and it’s fun! It’s a great way to include activity in to your day.
3) Take a Hike: There are plenty of beautiful trails in Ontario. Odds are you are near one! Explore your own backyard with your family and friends. You can look for birds, wildlife or enjoy some quiet time.
4) Play Some Games: One of my greatest memories is playing volleyball in the pool. The next thought that comes to mind is running through the sprinkler. You can work up a sweat and cool off at the same time! You can play Frisbee, badminton, basketball, football or soccer.
Summer is a great time to change your routine. Make some time to be active every day and help create some great memories with your family. All of these activities are free! Above all, they all get you active and having some fun at the same time.
