Pardon the pun, but the four keynote speakers for IHRSA’s 39th Annual International Convention & Trade Show, being held March 18–21, 2020, in San Diego, are unconventional. They’re also compelling, thought-provoking, and, in each case, invaluable advisors.
Joshua Lee Sundquist, a motivational speaker, comedian, best=selling author, and American Paralympian, lost a leg to Ewing’s sarcoma at the age of nine, but, that notwithstanding, went on to become a ski racer, and competed with the 2006 U.S. Paralympic Ski Team.
His experience is recounted in his 2010 memoir, Just Don’t Fall: How I Grew Up, Conquered Illness, and Made It Down the Mountain.
An Internet sensation, he’s collaborated with Chase Bank and Chevrolet, and appeared on CNN and NPR. His IHRSA address, “One More Thing, One More Time,” scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, blends stand-up comedy and soulful storytelling.
His listeners, fluctuating between laughter and tears, obtain a fresh perspective on what they have to be thankful for, and learn how to reach their fullest potential, despite all challenges, by committing to do one more thing one more time—1MT1MT.
His presentation is sponsored by Myzone.
Scott Stratten is another keynoter known for his candor, passion, and sense of humor. He’s the president of UnMarketing, Inc., a Toronto-based marketing firm, and the coauthor of four best-selling books.
He’s worked with corporate giants such as Fidelity, Microsoft, and Century 21, helping them to view their business through a fresh lens, and employ his innovative ideas—many having to do with social and viral initiatives—to engage customers more effectively.
His speech on “UnSelling: The New Customer Experience,” on Thursday, March 19, combines memorable stories with pragmatic, real-world strategies that can transform the way marketing and selling are done. His audiences discover how to develop loyal repeat customers—brand evangelists who love the goods or services being provided.
His address is sponsored by Technogym.
The third keynote attraction at IHRSA 2020 is James Clear, an author, entrepreneur, personal development speaker, and weightlifter who specializes in helping people break old bad habits and develop healthier new ones.
He often speaks to the staffs of Fortune 500 companies, and MLB, NFL, and NBA teams make use of his principles. Clear’s newest book, Atomic Habits, has sold over 800,000 copies worldwide; spent nine months on the New York Times bestseller list, and 33 weeks on the Wall Street Journal bestseller list; and topped Amazon’s Most Sold List for 31 weeks.
His session, “Atomic Habits: How to Become 1% Better Every Day,” is scheduled for Friday, March 20.
It will consist of one-part academic research, one-part personal experience, and one-part storytelling. Attendees will obtain an in-depth understanding of how habits are formed and become engrained, but also can be transformed to allow people to pursue constant improvement.
Clear’s presentation is sponsored by Matrix Fitness.
Crystal Washington, an author, certified futurist, and technology strategist, will wrap up IHRSA 2020 with a perfectly timed address, encouraging attendees to “Imagine the Future” on Saturday, March 21, 2020.
Washington, whose clients include GE, Google, Microsoft, and a number of Fortune 500 companies, has appeared in the pages of Entrepreneur, Bloomberg Businessweek, and Forbes, and has written two books, One Tech Action and The Social Media Why.
Delving into the web, apps, and social media, she’ll explain how they affect the way that clubs do business and how customers view and use them. An appreciation of generational difference and technology references will enable operators to increase team participation and client acquisition.
Washington also will suggest what clubs should do now to get ahead of the curve in order to thrive tomorrow!
