On behalf of the board of directors and provincial council members of Fitness Industry Council of Canada (FIC), I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very warm holiday greeting and all the best in 2019. At FIC, we are very excited about our accomplishments in 2018 and initiatives for 2019.
I would like to thank our Executive Director, Trisha Sarker, for her work assisting us in negotiating and ratifying a music licencing agreement with Re:Sound that is fair to both the fitness industry and the music industry. Our agreement will take us through the next 5 years.
Trisha was also key in delivering an incredible Canadian Forum at IHRSA 2018, where we recognized the very accomplished Chuck Lawson from the She’s Fit / Club 16 / OTF group of clubs in the greater Vancouver area.
The next Canadian Forum, at IHRSA 2019 (in San Diego this coming March) is a must-attend session which will host an incredible panel with topics focused on enhancing the industry. Current panellists and topics include:
In August, we were happy to be part of the Canadian Forum at the World Fitness Expo in Toronto, where we had another great panel discussing a wide variety of topics from programming to facilities.
Currently, we are engaged with a number of stakeholders to host a very momentous event for the industry for National Health and Fitness Day (June 1, 2019) – more details will be shared as we move forward. However, we are confident that this event will showcase our industry in an inclusive and significant way. This event, along side our Canadian Forums at IHRSA and the World Fitness Expo will no doubt make the upcoming year a success.
In 2019, will see ourselves focusing on creating conversation with key players in our industry, from certification agencies, registries, equipment suppliers, for-profit and non-profit fitness businesses, recreation partners, medical partners, and various levels of government. Our goal is to create meaningful dialogue to unify and synergistically move towards the common goal of increasing fitness participation across our amazing country.
2019 promises to be another tremendous year for our trade association. Stay tuned for our exciting progress throughout the year!
