Traditional job interviews are a poor predictor of job performance. Most interviewers as the ‘classic’ questions which have been completely rehearsed by the candidates. An example of this is, “So, tell me a bit about your strengths?” Most interviewers are not well trained and are biased when making their selection decisions.
At 360impact Group, we have done tremendous research and have reinvented the interview process to assist clients for a more efficient and successful hiring results.
Traditional interviews are still valuable however, you need to have the right employee(s) conducting the interview and asking the RIGHT questions. Old school style is out. Where traditional interviews fall short is the soft skills and candidates potential improvement points. It is really hard to determine disorganization or grit during a traditional interview.
During traditional interviews you also need to train your team on asking uncomfortable questions. For example-“ If I called your last boss and asked her what you are not good at, what would she say?” No one should be rude or disrespectful but interviewing is a skill-your team needs training. Red flags will be raised if you do this right.
Some of the new tools 360impact is using are soft skill assessments, job auditions and video interviews.
Soft skill assessments determine a real holistic picture of the candidate early in the process. Job auditions see a candidate in action potentially working through a skill live! Video interviews will allow you to tap into a wider pool of candidates and can be recorded live. Another great idea that 360impact has implemented often is having a meal, snack with a candidate. It is amazing how much more at ease a candidate becomes over a meal in an outside setting. Candidates often show their true colours.
The future is here! There are so many more creative and accurate techniques to this process. Your people are your brand. Make sure you have the right people doing the right kind of interviews!
